Thornhill Park Tennis Club

This week, we’re looking at another Southern Ontario tennis dome, this time in Thornhill. The Thornhill Park Tennis Club has a long history and just last year, the Farley Group, installed a new permanent dome that should keep the club going for many more years to come.

Tennis BubbleSome of the world’s greatest talent trained at the Thornhill Park Tennis Club. None other than Milos Raonic played there as a kid. In a recent piece in the Toronto Sun, the director of TPTC spoke of how surreal it is to see a local kid making it all the way to the final of a Grand Slam competition.

Milos recently made it the final round of the Wimbledon Championship, the furthest any Canadian man has made it.

Although he was beaten by Andy Murray, his performance to make it to the final was inspiring, especially to other young Thornhill players.

The TPTC has a growing number of young players that continue to push the sport. Being in Canada, though, winters can easily slow down a training athlete’s progression. The club long ago decided that indoor tennis was the only way to go for tennis training.

And what better indoor facility than a tennis bubble to keep the sport going all year?

Tennis DomeIn 2015, The Farley Group installed the TPTC’s indoor tennis bubble. This dome is a permanent structure—meaning play never stops as a result of the weather—and covers four hard courts. The tennis bubble stretches 189 feet long by 119 feet wide and reaches 38 feet high. Plenty of room for running to reach those long lobs.

Thornhill Park Tennis Club was founded in 1951 and has been a staple for active individuals in its Vaughn community for 65 years. According to their website, their mission is “To provide Vaughn residents of all ages and levels the opportunity to enjoy and excel at the game of tennis on a year round basis.”

Multiple programs and levels of membership provide tennis services for players of all ages and skill levels. If you’re a beginner (or even a seasoned player), lessons are available for groups as well as individuals. On the other hand, if you just want to be able to book a court, you can easily become a member for reduced booking fees and times.

And for the kids, educational programs and camps are scheduled throughout the year.

Playing tennis indoors helps maintain the passion and the athleticism of players going, despite the end of the outdoor season. Whether it’s snowing, raining, or too cold, a tennis bubble maintains optimal playing conditions whenever players want to play.

If you’re from the city of Vaughn and want to get started playing indoor—or outdoor—tennis, contact the TPTC online or stop by the tennis bubble for a visit. Or, if you’re in the market for your own indoor tennis facility, get in touch with us at The Farley Group and we’d be glad to answer any and all of your dome related questions.
